TELL US ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY WITH HORSES…

  • When did you start riding/how long have you been riding for?

I began riding around the age of 4, on a little Shetland pony named Jocelyn. I learnt a lot about horses growing with the Standardbreds in the racing stables and got into riding through a family friend.

  •  Are you a member of Pony Club/ riding club?

Yes, I joined Melton & District Pony Club to further my riding education in 2010 and I have been a riding member since then.

  • Have you always competed in the discipline you do now?

Originally I started competing mainly on the pony club showjumping scene with my first horse Rusty, before moving into the eventing scene with my next horse and now broodmare Muffin. She took me to from eventing grade 5 to grade 2, but also fed into my love of showjumping competing up to 115 heights. I now compete mainly eventing grade 1 on my current mount Wally.

  • Introduce your team of horses-what are their names, nicknames, what breed are they?

Practice Makes Perfect, aka Wally, is a 19yo OTTB eventing schoolmaster gelding who I am currently climbing the levels with. Snipes, is a 7yo OTTB gelding who has just began his eventing career with me. And Miss Amity, aka Muffin, is the first OTTB that I owned and is currently in foal to WB stallion Contenda.

  • Your most memorable career highlight to date

I’ve been lucky to have made a few very memorable moments in my riding career. My top memory would be competing at Pony Club Victoria State HT Championships 2021 and placing 6th on Wally in the Grade 1 class. My second most memorable career moment would be winning the Club Pony B grade (115) showjumping shield on my old mare Muffin. These moments matter the most to me because to me they highlight my own personal growth and progression as a rider.

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE/ FAVOURITE MOTTO

Personally, my favourite quote would have to be “Stars can’t shine without darkness”, as it says that everyone has rough or hard times that they go through, but that it is still possible to shine and come through all that better off in the end.
