How to treat open wounds in
horses
Following are the photos of the
mares hind leg first treated with Oticlean and then Yellow
Lotion. On two occasions up to 5mm deep of granulation tissue
was trimmed back to reduce the surface to skin level. The
history of the mare is that she was tangled in barbed wire at
Nimbin then left for 5 days to die and when this did not happen
was given tetanus antitoxin. No antibiotics was given at this
time. The Equine Care Group collected her and brought her back
to Brisbane 12 days after the accident, when I first began to
treat her. The first photo shows a member of this group holding
the lead rope. The photos are dated with the month preceding the
day, and begin from April 9 to the August 7. The bone being
removed on May 4 is periosteum which died after drying out.
Granulation tissue had already grown underneath.
Yellow Lotion and new dressing are applied every second day and
loose scab only removed. I have full praise for Ranvet's products.
