A body-building, HIGH PROTEIN
concentrate for young horses.
Protein quality is determined by its
levels of essential amino acids, Lysine and Methionine in particular.
Utilization of dietary protein is determined by its amino acid balance;
and a horse will only utilize its dietary protein up to the lowest level
of the limiting amino acid, so the quality of the protein source you
feed becomes extremely important.
Ranfac is a balanced, high quality protein concentrate fortified with
the essential amino acids, Lysine and Methionine, Vitamins, minerals and
trace elements. Fed as directed, it will improve skeletal development in
the foetus, and it will improve a mare's milk quality. It will improve
the growth rate, bone size and strength and the overall physical
development of foals, weanlings and yearlings.
The average horse has the greatest potential for growth at a very young
age, and if correctly balanced dietary protein is not fed, optimum
growth will not be achieved. In fact, a deficiency of protein does more
to depress growth rate than almost any other single nutrient. Growth and
development can be successfully nurtured simply by feeding Ranfac; it
caters for the very specific protein requirements of young growing
horses.
Ranfac builds muscle and strengthens bone.
Physical strength comes primarily from the muscles and to building
muscle a high quality protein intake is essential. You won't find a more
concentrated source of high quality protein than Ranvet's Ranfac. When
you feed Ranfac, no other protein source is required.
Protein rich diets, and exercise, are known to cause a muscle-building
effect by stimulating the release of the hormones concerned with the
uptake of amino acids by the body's cells. Potentially, the more amino
acids are taken-up, the more protein is produced, and the more protein
produced the more muscle is laid down.
It must be remembered that a young horse can have all the minerals in
the world in its diet but if that diet is deficient in high quality
protein, then weak bones will result. Around 90% of the re-modelling
(and therefore strengthening) of GROWING BONE occurs between the time a
horse is born and when it is two years of age. High quality protein is
essential for bone strength, and that's exactly what Ranfac provides.
Bone strength depends primarily on diet, and also on exercise; however
diet is the most important influencing factor. You have total control
over both factors! Feeding rations that are high in energy (oats, corn,
barley etc) but deficient in protein and minerals will produce fat
horses with poor skeletal development.
The level of maturity and soundness obtainable is basically in your
hands. What, when and how you feed can, and does, affect growth rates,
muscle development and bone strength. You can either nurture growth, or
stunt it, simply by the way; you feed!
The six golden rules.
If your aim is to breed sound, well-grown yearlings with sufficient
maturity to enable them to perform without setbacks as early tow year
olds, there are six golden rules to follow: -
1. Feed a high quality protein concentrate and a balanced mineral
supplement to your late pregnant mares.
2. Raise and sustain the quality of milk produced by you lactating mares
by feeding them high quality protein, iron and minerals.
3. Introduce a protein-based creep feed, together with supplementary
iron, to your young foals.
4. Wean early, and feed them high quality protein and balanced minerals.
5. Feed boiled meals and an increased grain ration to your weanlings and
yearlings in winter.
6. Give your young horses ample areas of undulating paddocks in which to
exercise.
