Building up the body of an equine athlete

To perform at its peak the horse like the human athlete needs careful conditioning and the right dietary ingredients to build muscle and strength. Physical strength comes primarily from the muscles and to build muscles a high quality protein intake is essential.

Muscle building for strength and power

Ranvet's Pro Mix has been formulated to meet the specific protein requirements of the horse in work. It builds muscle quickly, effectively and economically. All you feed is 250g daily, added to a ration containing 500g of a protein source (Soybean meal, Sunflower etc).

The muscles in a horse's chest, forearms, gaskins, back thighs and rump give the horse strength and the power to perform under pressure. These are the key muscles to build up.

You put in the hours of conditioning. PRO-MIX puts in the essential amino acids. It's a unique formulation which has resulted from over 17 years of intensive research.

Protein as a muscle-building agent

Protein-rich feeds, and exercise, are known to cause a muscle-building effect by stimulating the release of the hormones concerned with the uptake by the body's cells of amino acids. Amino acids are the "building blocks" of protein. Potentially, the more amino acids taken up, the more protein is produced; and the more protein produced, the more muscle is laid down.

PRO-MIX supplies, in precisely determined quantities, the specific amino acids which are commonly deficient in a horse's diet. In addition to its bone strengthening properties, PRO-MIX has a very positive effect on all body tissues. It's the perfect body-builder for the equine athlete and it maintains the body under stress.

Maintaining body condition under stress

Mother Nature never intended for horses in their natural environment to be subjected to the intense physical stress of training and competition, that is the lot of today's high-performance horses. Into this high-performance bracket fall racehorses, pacers, polo ponies, endurance horses and 3-day eventers. It is for this group of horses that PRO-MIX has been specifically formulated. The physical stress of training has been shown to significantly increase the breakdown of protein (and tissue) in the horse's body and this necessitates an increase of dietary protein if body condition is to be maintained. For optimum performance and bodyweight, horses in work require 500g of suitable protein source plus 250g of PRO-MIX.
