These minerals are
responsible for maintaining normal function in all body cells. A
deficiency of electrolytes can seriously reduce performance, leading to
longer race times, early muscle fatigue, cramping, and even an inability
of nerves and muscles to function properly. |
|
Travelling dogs to competition venues can create serious body fluid
imbalances, especially when travelling in hot or humid conditions over
long distances and when dogs are excitable or nervous. Greyhounds cannot
sweat like horses and humans to reduce excess body heat, and panting
becomes the major method of heat loss. At the same time, greyhounds lose
excessive potassium in particular.
Extensive research has shown that a liquid oral re-hydration concentrate
which contains glucose to improve electrolyte uptake, as well as buffer
salts such as the citrate salts in Ranvet’s ELEKTRA to reduce excessive
acidity, and high potassium to sodium ratio, will act rapidly to replace
lost body fluids and electrolytes and restore optimum body function.
Use Ranvet’s ELEKTRA at any time after a dog has had a hard workout or
race by diluting the concentrate in water or milk, as desired. Let the
dog drink this electrolyte mixture as it’s first drink, or simply dose
the required amount over the tongue before allowing the dog to drink
fresh, clean water.
Ranvet’s ELEKTRA is of particular value for travelling dogs, nursing
bitches, cramping greyhounds and pre-race excitement and dehydration in
hot weather.
Available in 1 litre and 5 litre packs.
