Horse stomach ulcer grading

When it comes to ulcers we just may be our horse's worst enemy. Simply being confined in a stall may be enough to lead to the development of ulcers. When horses are fed two times per day, the stomach is subjected to a prolonged period without feed to neutralize the acid. High grain diets produce volatile fatty acids that can also contribute to the development of ulcers.

Stress (both environmental and physical) is also a determining factor.

The pictures of equine gastric stomach ulcers in the following pages are graded according to severity.

Grade 1 being the least and Grade 3 being the most severe.

The pictures are in 3 sections.   Grade1    Grade2    Grade3
